The THRILL consortium is expanding

GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH, as coordinator of the THRILL project, welcomes three new members to the project: the Extreme Light Infrastructure ERIC (ELI-ERIC), the University of Rochester and the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF).

Thanks to an amendment to the project, which the European Commission validated recently, the ELI-ERIC and the University of Rochester are joining the THRILL consortium to work on technology related to high-energy high-repetition-rate lasers. ELI-ERIC formally takes over the responsibility of the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Science (FZU) in THRILL for matters related to its facilities in Dolní Břežany. The University of Rochester joins the project to foster technological exchanges and developments on large-surface-area coating and will help develop the upcoming optical coating facility at ELI Beamlines.

Furthermore, the THRILL general assembly has unanimously accepted ESRF, one of the major ESFRI facilities in photon science, as an observer to the project, with the goal to apply swiftly the findings of the THRILL partners to the ESRF’s new High Power Laser Facility for high-energy-density research.
